Kyoto offers a wealth of cultural and historical experiences. The Local Host team has compiled several excursion options to appeal to a variety of interests. Further information can be found below.

All tours will occur on Wednesday, 29 July 2026.

All tours are available to be booked with or without dinner.

All tours include:

Transportation leaving Prince Kyoto Takagaike Hotel (located across from the Convention Center) at 13:00
Transportation returning to Prince Kyoto Takagaike Hotel (from designated dining location)

- at 17:30 if you do not purchase the dinner package

Please Note: The excursion reservation portal is separate from the ISOC Registration portal. As a result attendees must create an additional profile when prompted on the JTB Excursion site when making reservations.

Mt. Hiei Enryakuji Temple is one of the most significant monastic complexes in Japanese history. Located on the border between Kyoto and Shiga prefectures, the temple offers a tranquil retreat overlooking Lake Biwa.

Founded more than 1,200 years ago by the monk Saichō, Enryaku-ji is revered as the cradle of Japanese Buddhism. At its heart stands the Main Hall, which enshrines the “Inextinguishable Dharma Lamp” — a sacred flame that has been continuously maintained by generations of monks for over twelve centuries.
